     NSW Athletics Forum

Last month Little Athletics NSW (LANSW) and Athletics NSW (ANSW) released the age groups and specifications for the 2024/25 season.

One of the initial challenges in finalising these settings was resolving the differences in how the two organisations have historically defined age groups and specifications and creating a single shared philosophy.

This necessitated some changes to the way we have worked in the past.

Following this release, we received feedback from Clubs and Centres regarding the single philosophy and the subsequent changes that were made.

Taking on this feedback LANSW and ANSW held a forum for clubs/Centres on Tuesday 23 July to update on Centres/Clubs of the subsequent revisions to the age groups and specifications and to provide clarity surrounding the NSWAthletics Partnership for the 2024/25 season.

The presentation from this forum can be found below:

           FORUM PRESENTATION SLIDES

      Key takeaways from the forum:

  • Revised:
  • Age group naming conventions (see age grid)
  • Dual participation (76cm) and competition (84cm/91cm) pathway for Sprint Hurdles, noting Centres do not need to buy new equipment in some limited age groups
  • Dual participation (1500m) and competition (3000m/5000m) pathway for Walks in some limited age groups
  • Centres/Clubs retain the structure, age groups and specifications for their local competitions with no changes required.
  • Zone and Regional Championships will continue as normal
  • Athletes in the 9’s – 12’s will qualify to State Championships via progression from Regional Championships.
  • Athletes in the 13’s (U14), 14’s (U15), and 15’s (U16) age groups will qualify to State Championships via progression from Regional Championships with additional qualification opportunities at identified NSW Athletics events. Entries in the16’s (U17), 17’s (U18) and U20 will be via direct entry at State Championships.

Information coming soon:

In the coming weeks you can expect to receive further information regarding the 2024/25 Summer Competitions & Events Calendar and the Pathway to progress to State Championships.

After that, we will continue to add more information as it becomes available, such as:

  • Championship event rules and procedures.
  • Championship entry fees and entry processes.
  • Second-claim club process and Regional Teams.

The NSW Athletics Partnership puts our Athletes and Centres/Clubs as the focus of everything we do and ensures that we will provide them with the best possible experience of Athletics and the best possible opportunity to have a lifelong journey within our sport.

We acknowledge that there will remain scope for further evolution and improvement to the structure of the Partnership as it continues to roll out in future years.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming NSW Athletics events throughout the 2024/25 Season.
